Wachau valley
Krems is the eastern gate to the section of the Danube Valley that is famous for its many monuments of secular and sacred architecture as well as apricot and vine cultivation. It extends to Melk, approx. 35 km away, and includes climatic, medieval towns that you can explore by ferry crossing the Danube and admiring the wonderful landscape.

Old towns in Krems and Stein
Krems and Stein are one of the oldest cities in Austria, which is why at every step there are historic, medieval buildings, and the whole town is on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. Walking along quiet and narrow streets you can feel as if time has stopped a few centuries ago.

Göttweig Abbey
Just a few minutes drive by car on south of Krems on a beautiful hill there is a huge Benedictine complex that can be seen from many kilometers. It includes a walled courtyard, gardens, a main abbey and a monastery, all of which is dated for over 1000 years. Being in Krems you will certainly see this massive wall, and curiosity will not let you remain indifferent to the opportunity to see what is hidden behind it.

Grafenegg Castle
Gafenegg is only a 20-minute drive from Krems and in the end of it there is the view of a charming palace in a romantic style. Earlier a place to live, today a place hosting music and art festivals, which impression is intensified by an open-air audience for nearly 2000 people.

Museums
Landesgalerie Niederösterreich
An art museum in Lower Austria opened in May 2019, which combines modern architecture with the old collections of Lower Austria and private collections that present current problems through individual and thematic exhibitions.

Kunsthalle Krems
This museum of modern art contains collections of contemporary and modern art from famous artists as well as rising ones. You can find there traditional art forms such as drawing, sculpture and painting, but also modern ones – photographs, videos, installations and much more.

The only satirical museum in Austria, mainly dedicated to political caricatures in the form of drawings, comics and illustrations.
